Workshop on Promoting Peaceful Coexistence and Combating Sectarian Violence in Baghdad
As part of the Peaceful Coexistence Program, the House of Democracy Organization organized a workshop in Al-Jamia District, Baghdad, with the participation of young people who had personally experienced violence or displacement, along with their families. Participants were selected from various neighborhoods across Baghdad (Al-Ghazaliya, Hay Al-Amal, Al-Hurriya, Al-Amiriya, Al-Jamia, and Al-Karrada), representing the city’s rich social and cultural diversity.
The workshop focused on key challenges facing Iraqi society, particularly sectarian violence and sectarian disputes, which remain among the main causes of conflict. The program opened a dialogue among participants on effective ways to reduce such tensions, including:
Promoting values of rejecting violence and religious intolerance.
Encouraging cooperation among different communities and sects.
Presenting practical initiatives and solutions to address conflicts and foster peace.
The workshop aims to instill a culture of dialogue and empower youth as active agents of tolerance and coexistence, contributing to a more united and stable Iraqi society.
