“Voices of Change” – Dialogue Session in Karrada Featuring Inspiring Women Leaders
As part of the Voices of Change project funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) and implemented by the Democratic House Organization (DHO), a dialogue session was held in Karrada, Baghdad on 11 September 2025.
The session welcomed prominent women leaders and role models, including Ms. Shuroq Al-Obaiji, who shared her inspiring journey of overcoming challenges and advancing women’s empowerment.
Session Objectives
Increase legal awareness of women’s rights and available protection mechanisms under Iraqi law.
Provide inspiration and mentorship by hosting accomplished women leaders who share their real-life success stories.
Encourage safe disclosure of gender-based violence (GBV) cases and connect participants to legal, social, and psychological support services.
Key Results
Insightful leadership exchange as Ms. Shuroq Al-Obaiji recounted her path to success and her efforts to empower other women.
Strengthened solidarity and motivation among participants to confront societal challenges.
Immediate legal guidance offered by a participating lawyer on protection measures and complaint procedures.
