As part of the Voices of Change project—funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) and implemented by the Democratic House Organization (DHO)—a dialogue session was held on 4 September 2025 at Al-Mahatta Hall, Karrada, Baghdad.
The session gathered 15 young women from diverse backgrounds, including participants with disabilities, which added a deeper dimension of inclusivity and impact to the project.

Session Objectives

Increase legal awareness of women’s rights and available protection mechanisms under Iraqi law to address gender-based violence (GBV).

Promote active civic participation by providing a safe space for young women to share experiences and support one another.

Encourage safe disclosure of GBV cases and connect participants to legal, social, and psychological support services.

Key Results

Rich and diverse exchange of experiences highlighting the challenges faced by women and girls in Baghdad, fostering empathy and solidarity among participants.

Immediate legal guidance delivered by a participating lawyer on protection measures and complaint procedures under Iraqi law.

Enhanced inclusivity of the project, demonstrated by the presence of young women with disabilities, underscoring the importance of ensuring access to dialogue and support for all groups.

This session reinforces the project’s role in creating safe and inclusive dialogue spaces that empower women and girls to address gender-based violence and access vital legal and social resources.
